This Alternator\/Generator engine, is basically an Early Shovel engine on the right side, with all generator and timer drive gears. Engines come with a special reverse ignition timer drive gear so they can be used with late, 1970-1999 style, ignition systems since these drive in the opposite direction. With its late Shovel left side crankcase the more modern and dependable 1970-1984 style alternator charging system can be used. If a generator is not used it is an excellent place to install a spin-on oil filter. Another advantage, all 70-up 4-speed, 5 or even 6-speed transmissions, can be run.
